Canoeing in Småland

In Småland there are over 5 000 lakes with an area of at least 10 000 square meters and many rivers of various sizes.

Emån, 220 km long, runs from the Småländska Höglandet to the Baltic Sea and is our longest river. The river Nissan near Gislaved has an 86 km long canoe trail with well-equipped service areas with wind shields, toilets, garbage cans and firewood. The use of the service areas is payed for with canoe vouchers which can be bought in the local tourist offices.

Värendsleden  is 120 km trail with service areas which can be used in exchange for  vouchers sold by the local canoe rental places. It starts at Lake Asasjön in the north and goes through several lakes.
Other popular canoe trails are Lagaleden in Lagaån from Vaggeryd to Halmstad, Helgeån near Älmhult and  Ronnebyån from Hovmantorp southward to Blekinge. Other larger lakes especially suited for canoeing are Bunn and Ören, Bolmen, Sommen  and Helgasjön.

Canoes can be rented at camping sites, youth hostels and canoe centers in many places.
