The manor house with its unspoilt 19th-century setting tells the exciting story of the last family at Huseby, three generations of the Stephens family. The colourful park surrounding the manor is planted in keeping with the period, and the kitchen garden produces vegetables in the same way as it did at the turn of the 19th century.
Today, Huseby (homepage available only in Swedish) is a living works setting centred around the old ironworks, with museums about the history of the ironworks and the labourers, a mill, sawmill and electricity museum. Bruksgatan has an old farm shop and several craftsmen, as well as a restaurant and café, and the water wheels still creak in the roaring Helige River.
Exhibitions
During the summer, there are all kinds of activities. In summer 2011, the theme will be rural life in days gone by with the focus on the garden, which has been tended in the same way since the end of the 19th century. Many interesting items have been brought out from the manor’s secret hiding places: letters, kitchen utensils, textiles and beautiful dresses.
Guided theme tours
Huseby offers some 20 different theme tours. Accompany the historic character himself in ‘At Home with Professor Stevens’ or enjoy ‘The Tea Room with Royal Pastries’ with Professor Stephens and the housemaid.
Christmas at Huseby
Scandinavia’s biggest Christmas fair with 170 exhibitors is held in November.
