It all started in Älmhult, where you can shop at the first ever store and see characteristic interiors from the 50s onwards. Next to the first store, IKEA is exhibiting some of its collections, with about 15-20 interiors characteristic of the times.
IKEA Through the Ages is part of IKEA Together – a cultural centre that recently opened in Älmhult. IKEA employees come here from around the world to be trained, for meetings and to learn more about the corporate culture on location.
The collections are now open to the public on a regular basis. As well as the characteristic interiors, there is also a complete collection of catalogues, store maps, etc. It is all self-service, the IKEA way: read the signs, which are in Swedish and English.
The following opening times apply all the year round:
Thu 12-7 pm, Fri-Sun 12-4 pm
Groups cannot be accepted at other times as the exhibition is then used for IKEA’s own activities. During normal opening hours, groups of 20-25 persons may be pre-booked by e-mail to IKEA.Tillsammans@Inter-IKEA.com
IKEA Through the Ages is located opposite the entrance to the IKEA store in Älmhult.
