John Bauer grew up on the southern point of V\u00e4ttern. He returned to Sm\u00e5land and his home city of J\u00f6nk\u00f6ping after spending years travelling abroad and studying art in Stockholm.<\/p>\n

From 1906 to 1918, John Bauer lived with his family on the northern point of Lake Bunn, just outside Gr\u00e4nna. First, they lived in a small house in Torstorp before moving to a villa on the Bj\u00f6rkudden peninsula.<\/p>\n

John Bauer\u2019s life ended tragically. He was in the process of moving to Stockholm with his wife and young son. His plan was to travel from Gr\u00e4nna by boat over V\u00e4ttern before taking the G\u00f6ta canal to the capital. They didn\u2019t make it far. A storm wrecked the boat on the evening of 20 November 1918. The boat was loaded with ovens and sewing machines from the Husqvarna factory when it sank near H\u00e4stholmen, about 30km north of Gr\u00e4nna. All souls on board were lost.<\/p>\n

To celebrate and honour J\u00f6nk\u00f6ping\u2019s favourite son on the 100th anniversary of his death, a special exhibition was created at J\u00f6nk\u00f6ping\u2019s County Museum. There\u2019s plenty from John Bauer\u2019s world you can do, see and experience at the museum.<\/p>\n
