In the summer you can visit Bl\u00e5 Jungfrun with day trips from Oskarshamn and Byxelkrok or by your own boat. The seclusion and inaccessibility make Bl\u00e5 jungfrun an exciting excursion destination. Here you will be met by terrain and large differences in level. Spans guide you around the island and lead you to a lush leafy hall of centuries-old, tall and gnarled trees, fascinating caves with narrow entrances that open up to impressive inner and geological mountain cauldrons. If you go to Bl\u00e5 Jungfrun, remember not to put even a small stone in your pocket when you leave the island. The myth says that anyone who takes a stone with them from Bl\u00e5 Jungfrun will be haunted by bad luck until the stone is returned to the island. In fact, every year the municipality of Oskarshamn receives stones from regretful tourists who have decided not to tempt fate unnecessarily. And every year the municipality ensures that the stones are transported back to the mysterious island in Kalmarsund. It is safest that way.<\/p>\n

The wild beauty of the rock formations, shaped by the inland ice, has given rise to speculation about what goes on in one of Sweden’s most famous national parks. And indeed, it’s fascinating to imagine what might have taken place here, on an island that was inhabited as early as the Stone Age.<\/p>\n

In the past, it was believed that a divine being lived on the island. The area was considered extremely dangerous for seafarers, who were more frequently hit by storms here than anywhere else. Sailors have avoided the place for a long time, and the stories about the island are countless. Perhaps the most famous and enduring myth is the one about witches flying to Bl\u00e5kulla on their broomsticks every Maundy Thursday to meet other witches.<\/p>\n
