A cozy day trip to Gr\u00e4nna and Visings\u00f6 is hard to beat. In beautiful weather, almost unbeatable. The small wooden town with the candy canes is located right at the foot of Gr\u00e4nnaberget, on the beautiful eastern slopes of Lake V\u00e4ttern. Here you will be greeted by cobblestone streets and charming low houses. And Visings\u00f6 is just a short ferry ride away.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\n Picturesque Gr\u00e4nna <\/h3>\n

Gr\u00e4nna, a charming small town on the southern shore of Lake V\u00e4ttern, is known as the birthplace of the famous explorer Salomon August Andr\u00e9e (1854-1897). Andr\u00e9e became famous worldwide for his failed balloon expedition to the North Pole in 1897. At Gr\u00e4nna Museum you can follow Andr\u00e9e’s arduous journey, from the preparations to the fateful journey, and hear the story of the mysterious end of the expedition.<\/p>\n

Today, however, the city is best known for it’s candy canes. Making them is a craft and it is fascinating to visit one of the many manufacturers and watch as the fresh dough is transformed into symmetrically striped sticks.<\/p>\n

At Gr\u00e4nna harbour there are a number of charming restaurants and caf\u00e9s, where you can enjoy both good food and a beautiful view of Lake V\u00e4ttern. The atmosphere here is always lively, with a mix of local flavours and international influences. From the harbour there are also frequent ferry trips to Visings\u00f6, the historic island that attracts with its scenic landscapes, cultural attractions and traditional Remmalag.<\/p>\n
