\n\t\t\t\tThe Kingdom of Crystal is the magical, beautiful and unusual area in the forests between V\u00e4xj\u00f6 and Kalmar. More than a million people come here every year, so it\u2019s not something to be missed. Glass has been made here since 1742 and at most there were 45 glassworks. Today, there are still many glassworks and glassworks studios set in the Sm\u00e5land nature. \t\t\t<\/div>\n

\n The history of the Kingdom of Crystal <\/h3>\n
\n

The history of the Kingdom of Crystal began as early as the 18th century when the first glassworks was founded in Kosta in 1742. Then as now, the riches of the forest \u2013 wood for fuel and sand from the ground \u2013 were used to create glass. Over the centuries, more mills sprang up in the region, and the Kingdom of Crystal quickly became the center of Swedish glass.<\/p>\n

The Kingdom of Crystal is more than just glass \u2013 it is a story about Sm\u00e5land\u2019s industrial history, about creativity and about pride. Around the glassworks there are cafes, art exhibitions, nature experiences and opportunities for both shopping and immersion in the history of craftsmanship. A visit here is a journey into a sparkling cultural heritage, in the middle of the Sm\u00e5land landscape.<\/p>\n

There is much to see for a visitor to the Kingdom of Crystal. Both world-class glass and art glass are made in the area, and you are welcome to come right up to the heat of the kilns to see it being created.<\/p>\n

All the glassworks have their own shops and you can always shop at great prices – both second-hand, art glass and prime glassworks. The area also has brand outlets, flea markets, small design shops and artists. Look out for signs along the way. It’s even more affordable if you buy a Kingdom of Crystal pass.<\/p>\n

If you want to end a day in the Kingdom of Crystal with a genuine dining experience, book yourself in for a glasshouse meal at one of the mills that organizes this. Traditional Sm\u00e5land food, fellowship, entertainment and glassblowing in the glasshouse are on the program.<\/p>\n
