As is common with traditional dishes, there are many different recipes. The biggest difference between \u00d6land-style and Sm\u00e5land-style kroppkakor is usually the color: the batter for the \u00d6land variety contains mostly raw grated potatoes and only a small amount of cooked potato, which gives the kroppkaka a grey hue. In Sm\u00e5land, the proportion of cooked potatoes is usually larger, resulting in a whiter kroppkaka. Another factor that affects flavor and texture is when in the year the potatoes are harvested; summer potatoes have less starch than winter potatoes.<\/p>\n

Kroppkakor are generally gluten-, lactose- and milk\u2011free, but be sure to ask just in case, because flour is sometimes included.<\/p>\n
