Quiet and sleepy \u2013 that is Pataholm today. In the past, timber was shipped from here, the local shipyard \u2013 the town\u2019s largest business \u2013 was busy, and merchants maintained significant trade connections. All of that is long gone. Today, the idyllic little village on the Kalmar Strait attracts visitors with its well-preserved wooden houses, offering a glimpse into the 17th century. Pataholm will astonish you. This little gem sits on a peninsula in the Kalmar Strait, surrounded by fields, meadows and forests. Pataholm is quite remote, yet presents itself as surprisingly grand. During its heyday in the 17th century, the market town of Pataholm was well known far beyond the region, despite having only limited town privileges. Around the market square, proud merchant houses still stand, bearing witness to its golden past. Today, only a handful of people live in the beautifully maintained houses and enjoy the peaceful coastal life with views over the Kalmar Strait.<\/p>\n

The inhabitants of Pataholm are proud of their houses and have turned two of them into local heritage museums, where visitors can learn about the town\u2019s flourishing era: Hullgrensg\u00e5rden and Harbergska g\u00e5rden. The shop Fr\u00f6ken Caroline<\/em> is housed in Harbergska g\u00e5rden and offers linen dresses in original designs, hats and jewellery. In another courtyard, artisans exhibit their work, including silver jewellery and ceramics.<\/p>\n
