Forage, cook and eat, right in the middle of Småla
Forage, cook and eat, right in the middle of Småland’s nature 🌿

The Edible Country is an outdoor food experience where you gather ingredients from the surrounding nature and cook your own meal under the open sky.

In Småland, you’ll find two tables: one deep in the forest at Asa Herrgård and one beneath the oak trees by the coast at Stufvenäs Gästgiveri.

Wild berries, mushrooms, herbs and fish are just some of the ingredients nature can provide. Book a guide or chef, learn what you can forage, then prepare and cook your meal together outdoors.

From forest to table, quite literally.

In Åsnen, the forest meets an archipelago of more than a thousand islands. 🌿

Åsnen National Park is built around one of Småland’s great lakes, with quiet bays, uninhabited islands, old deciduous forests and wetlands creating a landscape made for exploring both from land and water.

Follow the trails from Sunnabron or Trollberget, cycle through the surrounding landscape, or take to the water by canoe or kayak. Keep your eyes on the sky too Åsnen is an important breeding area for ospreys, and white-tailed eagles can also be spotted above the lake.

Crayfish season in Sweden 🦞 August marks the star
Crayfish season in Sweden 🦞

August marks the start of one of Sweden’s most beloved late-summer traditions: the kräftskiva, or crayfish party. Friends and family gather around tables filled with crayfish, bread and cheese, often decorated with colourful paper lanterns and accompanied by songs and plenty of laughter.

The tradition dates back to a time when crayfish fishing was restricted to a short season in late summer, making the first catch something worth celebrating. Today, the kräftskiva remains a much-loved part of Swedish August.

Travel isn't measured in miles. It's measured in moments.
The first cup of coffee. A chapter of a good book. Music drifting into the evening.
The places you discover – and everything in between. That's Småland time.
Slow down. Stay a little longer.
