Winter activities for children in Småland and on Öland. Here you can learn to ski at Isaberg Mountain Resort, blow glass or why not pet an elk.

Isaberg Mountain Resort

Here you’ll find southern Sweden’s largest ski area and a true winter adventure for the whole family! There are 11 slopes with different levels of difficulty, so both children and adults can find their favorite runs. The ski village is located in beautiful nature, where you’ll feel like you’re far out in the wilderness – but with everything you need close at hand.

Isaberg Fun Line & Rodel track

For the kids (and playful adults!) Isaberg Fun Line is a must. Here you’ll find fun jumps, small bumps, and rails that make skiing even more exciting. And for those who want to try something completely new, there is Sweden’s first Rodel track – a one-kilometer track winding down the mountain with curves that tickle your stomach. Perfect for a family challenge! After a day full of skiing and adventure, it’s nice to retreat to a cozy cabin. Here the whole family can stay together, cook, play games by the fireplace, and rest up for the next day on the slopes. Many cabins are located close to the slopes, making it easy to head out again when your legs are ready.

Did you know that the elk is the one that wears the biggest crown in Småland’s forests? Around 30,000 elk wander among trees and trails here – but if you really want to be sure to see one, you should visit an elk park. There, elk are guaranteed! In the elk parks you can get very close to the big and gentle animals. In some places you can even feed the elk and see how they reach out with their soft muzzles. Elsewhere you can go on an exciting safari by car and watch the elk as they move in their natural environment.

Cross-country skiing

Going cross-country skiing in Småland is a wonderful way to experience winter up close. As you glide through snow-covered forests and open landscapes, you get both exercise and nature experiences at the same time. All around Småland there are nice trails for both beginners and more experienced skiers – perfect for the whole family who want to try something different from downhill skiing. If you don’t have your own equipment, it can often be rented on site. Contact the tourist information office in the area where you are staying for tips on where you can rent cross-country skis and which trails are open right now. That way you’ll get both practical advice and local tips to make the most of your day on the tracks.

Outdoor grilling

Grilling and eating outdoors in winter is a cozy experience for the whole family. When the snow is white and the air is fresh, food tastes extra good over an open fire. After a day on the slopes or cross-country tracks, it’s perfect to gather around a warm fire, grill sausages or marshmallows, and enjoy time together. Always remember to use the designated grill areas found in many outdoor recreation areas and ski centers. There it’s safe to make a fire, and you also help protect nature. Many grill areas are even equipped with seating and firewood, so all you need to bring is the food and good spirits.

Christmas markets in Småland and on Öland are a real experience for the whole family! Children can meet Santa, taste sweets, and smell freshly baked gingerbread, while adults find delicious Christmas food from local producers and unique gifts to put under the tree.
