Äventyr för hela familjen i Kanaberg
Kanaberg outside Kalmar between Söderåkra and Påryd is nature’s own adventure center. Here, an Ice Age accumulation of giant boulders has formed with deep caves, halls and crawl spaces at different levels.
The caves are believed to have been formed during the Ice Age and on 20 September 1948 the site was declared a natural monument.
History tells us that these passages and caves were once hiding places and haunts for forest thieves and thieves. Rebel leader Nils Dacke who was born nearby is said to have lived in the caves and he is not the only one. The infamous “Thief-Pelle” also had Kanaberg as his nest and treasure hideout before he was beheaded in 1850 at the Vassmolösa execution site.
Today, Kanaberg is an exciting excursion destination, especially for families with children, and who knows – maybe there is a hidden treasure somewhere in the narrow corridors?
Don’t forget a flashlight and clothing for cave exploration.
