Funeral customs over two centuries
At the Funeral Museum in Ljungby, you can explore customs and practices surrounding death and funerals during the 19th and 20th centuries. In small room settings, the museum showcases and explains how death and funerals were handled during these two centuries. During the 1800s and early 1900s, death was a constant presence in everyone’s life. When it occurred, neighbors and relatives helped with all the necessary tasks. The ceremonies and rituals were a mix of practical necessities, church customs, and superstitions. The museum, which is the first funeral museum in the Nordic countries, was inaugurated in 2004 and is housed in an old itinerant church
