Winter Activities in Småland
Ski, skate, or cosy up by the fire
Welcome to Småland in the winter! You’re spoiled for choice here with the option to enjoy the slopes at Isaberg, discover the icy archipelago at Västervik, or zipline through the snowy treetops at Little Rock Lake.

Isaberg
Isaberg is the largest ski resort in Southern Sweden. It boasts 8 lifts, 11 groomed runs, and varying natural terrain, offering learning opportunities and challenges for green to black skiers. Be sure to ride the Isaberg Fun Line while you’re there. It’s a varied run with boxes, jumps, and rails that offer fun for young and old from top to bottom. The Fun Line promotes learning and balance in an enjoyable environment. For the adventurous, there’s a 1km-long bobsled run. It rushes down the mountain in sweeping turns and breathtaking drops.

Adventure on the Ice in the Västervik Archipelago
Fun starts once the water has frozen in the Västervik archipelago! Then, you can lace up your skates and glide on the pristine ice between Horn’s Point and Idö. Don’t forget to pack your helmet and your friends or family!

Winter Ziplining at Little Rock Lake
Deep in the forest in Småland, you’ll find Europe’s longest zipline. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of rushing through the wintery wilderness while you’re suspended in the air. After you unclip your harness and the adrenaline from your zipline adventure subsides, you can cosy up beside a fire in the barbeque area. There’s also an on-site café which is well worth visiting – because the views are stunning. Bookings are open year-round.
Adventure Starts at Svartbäcksmåla Nybro
With its freshly groomed cross-country tracks, downhill ski runs, and toboggan hill, Svartbäcksmåla in Nybro is a playground for all ages. The warming hut and barbeque area offer an escape from the cold. Or perhaps you’d prefer to use the facilities to rejuvenate before you switch gears and check out the picturesque hiking trails. svartbacksmala.se
Mullsjö Alpine
Mullsjö Alpine area boasts a range of ski runs – from easy kids runs to slopes with gradients of 30 degrees. And, thanks to the 60 snow cannons the resort owns, the snow conditions are always excellent. There are easy descents, more challenging mogul runs, and big jumps for those who dare. Learn more about the open runs and snow status at mullsjoalpin.se.
Hanaslöv – Alvesta’s Ski Resort
There is winter fun for everyone at Hanaslöv! Snowboarders can glide down the groomed runs or practice jumps and tricks at the skills park. For those who prefer flat ground, the 2km-long cross-country ski area is packed with artificial snow, so conditions are always perfect. The resort has a warming hut and barbeque facilities for you to warm up in too. For families with children, the sledging hill offers tons of fun. The Alvesta municipality runs the resort with help from the volunteers at Friluftsfrämjandet and Alvesta’s ski and orienteering club. www.hanaslov.se
Myrebobacken in Ljungby
Myrebobacken is a 250-metre-long downhill ski area where you can ride your skis or snowboard. For snowboarders, the park has a quarter pipe, rails, and a big jump area. When your belly starts to grumble, there’s a warming hut and a barbeque area. Just past Myrebobacken, you’ll find Lake Ljungsjön. In the winter, you can cross-country ski around the lake or even ice skate on it if the weather allows. www.ljungby.se
Cross-Country Skiing
Småland has many communities and associations with groomed trails for cross-country skiing. You can enjoy the Småland winter landscapes on such trails in Lövhult and Hallby, amongst others. These regions both have ski trails of varying distances that suit beginner to experienced skiers. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy a crisp winter day in Småland.
Long Distance Ice Skating at Lake Bolmen
On cold winter days, the ice at Lake Bolmen fills with hundreds of skaters enjoying the conditions and scenery. In the southern tip of Lake Bolmen, the wind often blows the snow off the lake, making the ice perfect for skating. The ice sings as everyone glides over it. In recent years, black ice has formed at the lake – and skaters have travelled from near and far to enjoy it. Conveniently, you can skate to Tiraholms fisk if you get hungry.
