Visit the Film Village

Filmbyn Småland in Mariannelund tells Astrid Lindgren’s stories the way they were in the films about That Emil, Seacrow Island and Pippi Longstocking. The classic films were part of the childhoods of many generations of Swedish children, and many will have memories of places, costumes and props that appear in them.

Step into the Magical World of Film

When you get to Filmbyn, you are more than a cinema or museum goer. Here you can go behind the scenes and be part of making your own film, sing along to the film music, visit the studio sets and much more in the interactive settings. It lets you step into the magical world of film in a setting that could have been created by Astrid Lindgren herself. There’s an activity park with a built-in parkour area for you to channel your inner adventurer and you can see classic film clips, sing along to tracks from the films and check out original props.

You can also visit some of the places in the region where Astrid Lindgren’s films were shot, primarily That Emil, on your own. You can visit Gibberyd, for example, the farm that became Katthult in the films about That Emil. There you can see the house, the farmhand’s quarters and the woodshed. To find the place where the scenes inside the woodshed were shot, however, you have to take the car and continue to a completely different place, an unassuming factory a short distance from there. That’s the magic of the world of film.

The exhibition Filmbyn Småland opened in 2017 in brand new premises in Mariannelund. At one of Småland’s absolute newest destinations, young and old visitors can enjoy exciting experiences.
