Linnés Råshult

Sweden’s tenth cultural reserve, Råshult, invites you on a fantastic journey back to the landscapes and gardens of the 18th century. Take a guided tour with none other than Carl von Linné himself!

Carl von Linné’s birthplace

Linné’s Råshult, is a cultural reserve in Småland and the place where Carl von Linné was born in 1707. The area covers approximately 58 hectares, including farm buildings, fields, meadows, and woodland, which together reflect the Småland cultural landscape of the 18th century. The reserve borders Lake Såganässjön and provides a clear picture of how nature and agriculture interacted during Linné’s upbringing. The land and buildings have been carefully restored to show what life on a vicarage could look like at that time. Visitors can walk along paths through pastures and meadows and experience historical cultivation methods and traditional plants. The area also includes a museum and offers guided tours that tell the story of Linné’s childhood and his family’s everyday life.

Open to visitors year-round

The landscape is maintained using historical methods to preserve both cultural heritage and biodiversity. Linné’s Råshult is open throughout the year, although certain facilities, such as the shop and café, operate seasonally. Today, the site is a popular destination for both nature and culture enthusiasts who want to experience a living piece of Swedish history.
