In the footsteps of Astrid Lindgren
Katthult
Stepping into Katthult is like stepping straight into the summer days of childhood where the gravel crunches underfoot, the wind howls in the birches and Emil’s laughter echoes between the red gables of the houses. Here, among the carpentry boa, flagpole and chicken coop, memories are brought to life from the beloved films about Emil in Lönneberga. You see the kitchen window where Ida was hoisted up, the table where Emil’s mother cooked party food and the meadow where Emil’s antics always took off. Everything has been preserved exactly as it looked in the films so that both young and old can feel the magic of being part of Astrid Lindgren’s world, if only for a day. Katthult is not just a place, it is a piece of living history that never ceases to touch.
Näs
A visit to Astrid Lindgren’s Näs is like walking straight into the author’s world – not the fictional one, but the real one. Here in the small rectory in Vimmerby, Astrid grew up among lilac hedges, apple trees and a thousand childhood adventures. You walk in the same garden where her imagination took shape, where play met seriousness and where the foundation was laid for stories that would be loved by generations. In the house, every room breathes history and in the beautiful garden, ideas, feelings and memories sprout.
Bullerbyn
Take a step straight into the idyll of childhood and experience Bullerbyn for real. Here, in the middle of the Småland landscape, lie the three farms in a row – Norrgården, Mellangården and Sörgården – just like in Astrid Lindgren’s stories. Walk on the paths where children ran barefoot, peek into the houses and let your imagination take you back to a time filled with mischief, friendship and summer holidays that never ended. In Bullerbyn, the simple life lives on, where every day offers small adventures and big smiles.

A “museum” in the middle of the forest. The floor is soft with green moss. The walls are majestic trees. Here you will find a car cemetery with scrap cars dating back to the 1930s. Round, bulky screens and reminders that there was once left-hand traffic. The wrecks have slowly broken down and today the sheet metal is sometimes just paper-thin. Between the seats of an old Chevy, ferns grow lushly and ants wedge themselves over the seat of the Volkswagen bus that has sunk halfway into the bog. Nature is taking back its rights, but it is going slowly, reverently slowly.
