The Kingdom of Crystal is pure magic

Nowhere in the world are there so many glassworks and studios in one place. Glass has been blown here since 1742 and the working method is largely the same now as then. Where the Småland spruce forest opens up, you will find the mills in unpretentious communities. A glassworks tour can take either one or two days.

A unique experience close to the glassblowers’ masterpieces

Traditionally, the glassworks are open to everyone. It is also unique that you get to go up close, right up to the masters and craftsmen who process the glowing mass. In the area between Växjö and Kalmar there are a total of 13 glassworks and glassworks. Plan for four types of experiences – seeing the craftsmanship inside the glassworks and fantastic exhibitions, then shopping affordably in the shops. All the glassworks have sales – usually at really good prices. And you can actually also try your hand at blowing glass yourself in several places.

The mother farm Kosta

Kosta is the mother mill from 1742 and here is the art glass, table glass and now, for example, the manufacture of gear lever knobs for Volvo. This is where Bertil Vallien works and casts his boats, here is the legacy of Ulrica Hydman Vallien and many other artists. In Kosta, an entire destination has also grown with hotels, restaurants, cabins, Elk Park, safari park, outlet and wilderness life. You can find the similarities and love for glass at every cabin – because it is a love story. Master, assistant, designer and artist – they all have a close relationship with the glowing mass and its possibilities.

Experience the full spectrum

A contrast to Kosta is, for example, Persson & Persson in Ösjöbol outside Åseda, where they recycle. Used bottles are turned into beautiful glasses and other everyday items. The shop and café are in the old general store next door. If you turn south, you will come to Bsweden in Herråkra with an outlet and then to Bergdalahyttan. They have an exciting collaboration on lighting and many of Bsweden’s glass details are manufactured here. For example, the lampshade for the popular Manhattan. Otherwise, Bergdalahyttan is best known for its everyday items with a blue stripe.

Screwed and trendy glass

So to the trendsetter in Skruv – products from Skrufs Glasbruk will soon be on every influencer’s Instagram account. The Pallo vases, the column and the Tokyo candlestick are lining up in their outlet. However, you can only buy the Dagg vase at Svenskt Tenn – but it is made in the forests of Småland.
