Hyttsill is an old tradition in the Kingdom of Glass that goes back to the time when the smelter was also the gathering place for the village. It was always warm here, there was someone to talk to and the cooling pipes were warm and suitable for cooking. The glassworkers also often gathered here for a while. Wanderers and hunters provided the stories and entertainment.

This tradition has developed into a festive evening where everyone is welcome. When the glassblowers go home, the long tables are set up in the glassworks of Småland. The chef has fried salted herring in the cooling tube where the glass was allowed to slowly cool down earlier in the day. The herring plays a leading role, just as the name suggests. Salted herring must be on the table when the glassworks is set. It has a strong, historical tradition, not only in Småland but throughout the country as an everyday food. In the glassworks, however, the herring is accompanied by several dishes. These are Småland specialties – fried pork, cheese sticks, baked potatoes and the Småland people’s own jam – lingonberry jam. For dessert, the Småland regional dish of cheesecake with jam and cream reigns supreme.

During an evening in the Kingdom of Crystal, you as a guest enjoy the community, the warmth and the good food. Just like the hobos and the people of the region always did. And of course, some modern-day “hobos” will come and entertain with songs, music and maybe some local history. In short – a full evening in the cabin.
